Unleashing AI in Digital Marketing: From Theory to Practical Applications

AI is a hot topic everywhere, and we know that it's here to stay. So, I won't waste our time saying the same repetitive things we've been hearing about integrating it now and early because we all know it's true. Instead, I will show a quick and easy example of a place to start, in relation to digital marketing.

The easiest way to start is by asking AI questions that you want to know more about. They can be as simple or complex as you want or need them to be. For this example, I simply asked for five concise points that show how AI can work together with your digital marketing plan.

Here are five easy ways that AI can work together with your digital marketing plan.

  • Enhanced Personalization: AI analyzes vast customer data to deliver highly tailored content, ads, and recommendations, making your marketing feel uniquely relevant to each individual.
  • Automated Content Creation: AI-powered tools can quickly generate drafts for ad copy, social media posts, emails, and blog outlines, accelerating your content production while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Optimized Ad Performance: AI algorithms within advertising platforms automatically refine targeting, bidding, and ad placement in real-time, maximizing your ad spend efficiency and reach.
  • Deeper Customer Insights: AI processes large datasets to identify trends, predict customer behavior, and uncover hidden patterns, providing actionable intelligence to inform your strategic decisions.
  • Streamlined Operations: AI automates repetitive tasks like data analysis, social media scheduling, and customer support (via chatbots), freeing up your team to focus on creative strategy and high-value initiatives.

This is great information that was able to be produced relatively quickly by generative AI. It didn't start off concise as this result though. Originally, it was much wordier and had some aspects of ways to incorporate that wouldn't be a topic I'd have chosen. I then changed my prompt to give me five concise points that show how AI can work together with your digital marketing plan.

It's all accurate information, which is great, but it still seems slightly impersonal. Though it's much more concise now, it still has lengthier single sentences than I typically write. Whether that's because grammar is not my strong suit shall remain a mystery.

Let's personalize this even more while getting more practice using AI. The more information you give it, the more it learns and adapts. Because I would write this same information differently, I wanted AI to do it for me instead. What I did next was attach a writing sample of mine and gave the following prompt "Ingest the attached writing sample to learn more about the author's tone and writing style. Apply the learned style and tone to re-write the five concise points that are directly above."

These are the results:

  • Making it Personal (Like, Really Personal): Forget generic blasts! AI dives deep into all that customer data to figure out exactly what makes each person tick. This means your ads, your emails, and even your recommendations feel like they were made just for them, which, let's be honest, is pretty cool.

  • Whipping Up Content Faster Than You Can Say "AI": Staring at a blank page is the worst, right? AI writing tools can churn out first drafts for your ads, social posts, emails, and even blog outlines in a flash. It's like having a super-speedy assistant for all your content needs, freeing you up for the fun stuff.

  • Ad Campaigns on Autopilot (The Smart Kind): Those big ad platforms like Google and Meta? They've got AI running the show behind the scenes. It's constantly tweaking who sees your ads, how much you bid, and where they pop up, all to get you the best bang for your buck without you having to be glued to the screen.

  • Unlocking Customer Secrets: Imagine having a crystal ball for your customers. AI sifts through mountains of data to spot trends, guess what people will do next, and find those little nuggets of information you'd never see on your own. It's like having a super-sleuth for your marketing strategy.

  • Kissing Busywork Goodbye: Let's face it, digital marketing has its share of tedious tasks. AI swoops in to handle the boring bits - think sorting data, scheduling social media posts, or even chatting with customers through a chatbot. This means you can ditch the drudgery and spend more time on being brilliant and strategic.

This sounds much more like how I'd deliver the same information. I worked smarter not harder by using AI since sometimes it is quicker to get a little help than staring at a blank screen.

AI isn't here to replace us, because it's always good practice to go over what's been generated to ensure accuracy, but also because there may be elements that you'd want to change, so it doesn't sound like a robot just produced it...even though it did.
